The priciest knives in CS2 aren't expensive because of the knife type. They're expensive because of an extremely rare finish, pattern or float on top of a popular knife. Here are the knives that sit at the very top of the market, and what puts them there.
The most expensive knife skins
No list of "the priciest knife" stays accurate for long. Top-end sales are private, rare and depend on the individual item. These are the knives that consistently sit at the top of the market:
- Karambit | Case Hardened ("blue gem" patterns): the best blue patterns, such as pattern #387, are the most famous knives in the game. Some have reportedly traded for seven-figure sums.
- Karambit | Doppler (Sapphire, Ruby, Black Pearl): the rare Doppler phases on the most wanted knife.
- Butterfly Knife | Doppler (Sapphire, Ruby, Black Pearl): the same jackpot phases on the other top-demand knife.
- Karambit | Gamma Doppler Emerald: the Gamma Doppler jackpot phase.
- Butterfly Knife | Case Hardened blue gems: less famous than Karambit blue gems but still extremely expensive at the top patterns.
- M9 Bayonet | Crimson Web (low-float Factory New): a Factory New Crimson Web with a clean web pattern is very hard to find.
- Karambit | Fade (high fade %), Lore and Crimson Web FN: the next tier down, still well into four figures for good examples.
What makes a knife this expensive?
- Knife type: Karambit and Butterfly demand is much higher than any other knife.
- Finish: Doppler, Gamma Doppler, Fade and Case Hardened can be worth many times more than a Safari Mesh of the same knife.
- Phase or pattern: within Doppler, only a small share of drops are Ruby/Sapphire/Black Pearl. Within Case Hardened, only a handful of the 1,000 patterns are true blue gems.
- Float: a low Factory New float adds a premium, especially on Crimson Web.
- StatTrak: StatTrak versions are rarer and often cost more.
How the knife trade up changed prices
Before October 2025, unboxing was the only new source of knives. The Covert-to-knife trade up added a second source, and many common knife finishes fell hard. See the CS2 skins market crash.
