What happened
For about a decade, the only way to create a new knife or pair of gloves in Counter-Strike was to unbox one, at roughly a 0.26% chance per case. That scarcity held up the whole top end of the skin economy.

- Knife and glove prices dropped sharply. Holders expected a flood of new supply and raced to sell.
- Covert skins rose, sometimes several-fold, because they were now the raw material for knives.

Why prices moved so hard
- New supply: knives and gloves could now be made from Covert skins, not only unboxed.
- A price ceiling: if five Coverts plus some risk cost less than a knife from that pool, the knife's price gets pushed toward that cost.
- Panic selling: fear of further drops made the first move much bigger.
- Concentration: many large inventories were heavy in knives and gloves, so the losses hit big holders hardest.
